Bhutanese juniperOur Quest
the world’s most
distinctive ginIn our quest to create the world’s most distinctive gin, we sought the rarest and purest juniper and found it in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Our juniper only grows above 4000 metres in pristine mountain air and sunshine. It is sustainably collected by a resident team in the mountains who know exactly where this jewel of Bhutan can be found.
Silent Pool Black Juniper Gin is crafted with the rarest juniper and most exotic botanicals including oud and cloud tea to deliver a unique layered gin experience.
From the Kingdom of Bhutan to the County of Surrey
Our Inspiration, The Black
Juniper of BhutanThe Kingdom of Bhutan, on the edge of the Himalayas, is home to a high-altitude variant of juniper which thrives on the mountainous landscapes. Bhutanese juniper trees are considered sacred and since ancient times have been a symbol of life and fertility to the people of Bhutan. Juniper branches are burnt as incense in the many monasteries and village houses of the Himalayas.
In Bhutan environmental preservation is cultural preservation. As a Buddhist country, the pursuit of happiness is rooted in celebrating and protecting nature and the environment.
Bhutan is the only country in the world that is carbon negative, absorbing more carbon than it emits. The quality of the air and altitude deliver the purest growing conditions for the elusive black juniper berries. The result is juniper berries with the most powerful and aromatic essential oils in the world.
How it’s made
The World’s Most Rare and Fine
IngredientsForaging the
Jewel of BhutanHigh in the Himalayan mountains at the otherworldly landscape after 4,000m, the only people privy to the location and biorhythms of the legendary Black Juniper are our local foragers. The foragers make the incredible journey to the mountain tops to collect the juniper by hand along challenging terrain to reach the extraordinary juniper bushes. Sustainability is central to the foraging process, and they optimise the crop by leaving some berries on the bushes to encourage future growth of the scarce black juniper.
The World’s Most Rare and Fine
IngredientsWe looked to find botanicals to complement and celebrate the unique quality of the Black Juniper at the heart of the gin. We were inspired by the flavours and aromas of the Himalayan Puja ritual, where fragrant smoke, juniper and tea elements associated with the ceremony have all been represented.
The mystical agarwood, a rare and precious wood, is used to smoke the Black Juniper. This intriguing ingredient, considered a highly luxurious natural product is used in many of the most celebrated fragrances in the world.
